Weekly in person meetings have now restarted on Monday evenings
(alternating Southend Coding Meetup/Southend on Sea Linux User Group fortnightly)

Weekly Mondays 7pm-8.30pm, over 18s
The Old Waterworks, North Road, Southend

We learn new things, share our projects and have fun with hardware like Raspberry Pi, Microbit, Arduino, robotics etc.

Please be considerate of attendees’ health regarding COVID:
Continue to social distance, use the sanitisers provided and wear face masks when walking around the building, as well as checking in and out.

Over 18s are also invited to join us for Southend Tech Meetup which is held 7-9pm on the first Thursday of the month at The Old Waterworks covering a wider range of tech related topics, occasional talks, more networking and suitable for non coders. We are inviting tech talks, please contact us.

 

Location

The venue is located on the junction of North Road / Chelmsford Avenue. Don’t go in the building site entrance on the junction (next to the Muslim building). Use the pedestrian entrance just next to it or the free car park entrance is further towards the BP garage.

Southend Borough Council is building a Data Warehouse to underpin the Council’s Smart City Intelligence Hub and publish Open Data and is looking for input from the local community to help shape its design and uses.

Docker BBC Emulator instructions:
1. Install Docker
2. docker run –name bbc -d -p 5920:5920 -v <some directory on your host>/bbcmicro/ssd:/home/bbcmicro/ssd elminster/b2:latest
3. Copy a BBC disk image (.ssd file to <some directory on your host>/bbcmicro.ssd)
4. Using a VNC Client connect to localhost:5920
5. File->Drive 0->Disc Image-><select ssd file from bbcmicro/ssd directory>
6. shift + brk will load the disc image. On my Mac this maps to shift + f11. See tools->Keyboard Layout for key mappings from BBC keyboard to your machine.

Drones were also given instructions to fly using computer code.

The drones also have cameras live streaming. These photos were take from the drone. (Twitter reduces quality and resolution so raw photos are better.)

 

 

Members took part in the #ChallengeDementia Hackathon with Essex County Council and one idea developed went on to win Β£5,000.
